Palworld studio Pocketpair Games is no stranger to sandboxes and farm content; the studio has been working on Craftopia for five years, after all. As of last night, the studio has another one, this one called Palworld: Palfarm, which the whole world will heretofore shorten as Palfarm.
“Begin a brand-new cosy life in the world of Palworld!” the company’s new Steam page says. “Together with the mysterious creatures known as Pals that you meet on the Palpagos Islands, build the farm of your dreams in Palfarm! Move to an island where Pals live and have them help with farm work, cook alongside them, shop at stores they run, or gather materials to expand your farm. Show your gratitude to the Pals who help you each day by giving them gifts. On this island with its changing seasons, a relaxing farm life with Pals awaits! Of course, eating your own Pals is absolutely out of the question! In Palfarm, Pals and people live together peacefully in harmony!!”
It kinda just looks like the company’s existing games, with a hefty farming and cozy component and of course the sadistic element (see the automatic weapons and chainsaws that are permanent fixtures in this franchise). Pocketpair does say that the game “supports multiplayer” and friend-invites, though it’s not clear how many or how MMOsy.
As MOP’s Chris reminded me this morning, Nintendo just announced farming sim of its own called Pokopia, so the timing is pretty amazing, given that Nintendo is busy patent-trolling and trying to sue Pocketpair over alleged Pokemon infringements. Surely Nintendo will try to patent video game farming next. Dumber things have happened in the last month.
