Just a week after dropping news about Nighthaven – one of the most tantalizing updates MMORPG players are getting all autumn – Amazon’s New World team is diving directly into… the PvP part of the update. What, you thought Amazon of all studios was going to whip out werewolves and spooky catacombs first thing? Not a chance.

In fact, there’s a good reason PvP is up first: It’s because there’s an event attached to this reveal, and it begins literally today. We’re talking here about Tower of Calomel, which is the new Outpost Rush map coming in Season 10; it features a layout meant to keep players moving and adapting to underground and the high ground for advantage. No, you can’t just declare you’ve won because you have the high ground.

“The Tower of Calomel delivers a three-layered battlefield that rewards mastery of vertical combat. From sweeping outer battlements to the shadowed depths of the undercroft, each level demands unique tactics. Elevated positions provide commanding views but leave defenders vulnerable, while the lower passages conceal twisting mines, corrupted arenas, and deadly surprises.”

The preview event runs September 23rd – today – and runs through the 30th.

We’re not expecting a detailed preview of the actual update until “early October,” but we are getting some teasers thanks to kits sent to streamers that appear to include faux Tarot cards with gorgeous artwork titled “forendlesstime.”

“Well done, traveller. You have parted the first veil,” the message says. “But as with all things…the truth may be plain to see today, but remain yet to be understood until the experiences of tomorrow.”
