As we’ve been covering, the Visions of Eternity expansion for Guild Wars 2 is bringing some revamps to the skimmer mount, with a variety of new abilities and features that will make it shine in the island-filled lands of the upcoming new areas. But sometimes it’s best to see these in action, which brings us to the weekend livestream from ArenaNet that’s all about skimmer showoff.

Not only does the stream provide explanations and demonstrations of the skimmer’s skills, but it also weaves together a few of them to show off how its movement can do new things, given practice and careful stamina management. For example, using a combination of the lift and some speed boost skills will make the skimmer float across the air for extended periods of time, though not as well as the gryphon or skyscale mounts (obviously), and there are certain areas in Visions where the skimmer will excel, particularly those where there are lots of updrafts and leylines.

The stream also granted a brief overview of the four mastery lines that the skimmer mount will have access to once players get through a certain point in the expansion’s story. The idea, according to the devs, is to try to give players the tools to have fun with the mount a bit sooner but also grant the skimmer a sense of evolution as masteries are earned.
