Destiny fans who wouldn’t mind a fresh take on the franchise that just so happens to fit in the palm of their hands can celebrate today as NetEase has officially launched Destiny Rising globally on Android and iOS devices with full crossplay on four regional servers around the world.
“Developed and published by NetEase Games, and officially licensed by Bungie, creators of the Destiny franchise, Destiny: Rising delivers a brand-new adventure set in an alternate Destiny timeline, exploring a narrative in the post-Dark Age era. […] Featuring a diverse roster of characters, each with unique abilities and stories, Destiny: Rising offers players dynamic and challenging single, co-op, and competitive multiplayer gameplay, including beloved game modes familiar to Destiny players, and all-new modes that introduce new ways to play Destiny.”
NetEase and Bungie have been vocal about taking player feedback from testing into account for this final launch, specifically on weapons and artifacts; the devs say they “rebuilt the weapon modification system from the ground up” and “abandoned the previous set-bonus approach” for artifacts.
In conjunction with the launch, there’s also a Destiny 2 x Destiny Rising collab today, if you consider it transmedia synergy and not just basic marketing: “After completing the Bear the Light event in Destiny: Rising, players will be able to redeem an exclusive emblem for use in Destiny 2 through the Bungie.net website.”
