There’s a fine line between knowing your worth and losing all sense of humility, and it’s probably safe to say that Rockstar crossed that line here. Apparently, the company put out a job posting referring to Grand Theft Auto 6 as “what will be the largest game launch in history.”
The posting was first noticed by Twitter account The GTA Base and then publicized further by PC Gamer, at which point we started looking too, and lo and behold, in the interim Rockstar apparently summoned some judgment and edited the post back down to reality. Here’s the OG paragraph:
“With the continued growth of Grand Theft Auto Online and the upcoming release of Grand Theft Auto 6, the successful candidate will lead both the evolution and operation of the data platform supporting what will be the largest game launch in history, ensuring it scales to deliver an exceptional experience for millions of players worldwide.
Original on the left; current version on the right.

The eyepopping line has since been removed, obviously. No need to take The GTA Base or PC Gamer on faith, though; someone (bless you, stranger) had the good sense to commit the original to the Internet Archive before it was edited, so you can see Rockstar getting a bit too big for its britches in plain view. Hey, PC Gamer already used “counting its chickens before they’ve hatched” and we’re running out of old-timey phases to simulate raising our eyebrows at hubris. And hey, it might even be justified, but maybe don’t go daring the universe to deliver one helluva prank, eh?
