Stop Killing Games is all but assured of a hearing in the EU for its petition

So let’s catch everyone back up on Stop Killing Games, the movement started by Ross Scott inspired by Ubisoft’s atrocious handling of The Crew’s sunset. In June, Scott was concerned that the petition would fall shy of its one million signature goal. In July, as increased attention helped boost the petition’s signature count, Scott was still worried that many of the signatures might be illegitimate, which not only could’ve made the movement less credible but might have kneecapped the entire movement.

But now signature verification has begun. And Scott, by his own admission, was worrying about nothing.

According to the current managers of the campaign on Reddit, signature verification thus far has revealed that 97% or so of the signatures are valid, which means that it’s all but certain that it will be heard officially by the EU Commission. To be clear, this isn’t exactly game over; there’s no way of being certain what the commission or parliament will do following the petition. But it will get its day to be heard, and that’s all you can ask for.
