The drips of detail keep on coming for World of Warcraft: Midnight, as a video interview from YouTuber MrGM with associate game producer Paul Kubit and lead combat systems designer Jade Martin provides a few more tidbits about the upcoming expansion from the show floor of Gamescom.
First off is a little bit of extra detail for the new Devourer Demon Hunter spec, including confirmation that it will be playable in the expansion’s pre-patch, a little more detail on how its mid-range combat works (think caster gameplay but with a bit of bolting into melee), and word of the addition of glaive weapons with intelligence stats as well as scythe weapons. On the subject of other class reworks, the devs confirm that other class changes will be introduced via upcoming dev blogs.
Switching over to the playable Haranir race that’s en route with Midnight, the devs talked up some of their unique racial abilities, including their use of the world tree’s roots to travel around the game world, their innate critical strike damage and healing, and their ability to summon enveloping roots that are friendly to allies and damaging to foes. As for their starting experience, it will be fairly similar to the Earthen starter zone. The level at which Haranir start hasn’t been determined yet.
Finally, of major note are a series of answers about Midnight’s addition of three new raids. Here the devs talk about how the combat design team has been eager to do smaller raid encounters, confirmation that they will be pretty closely tied to the expansion’s story, and some details on their release schedule. Specifically, the Void Spire and Dream Rift raids will arrive at the beginning of the MMORPG’s season, followed by the March on Quel’Danas likely two or three weeks later. While the narrative campaign for these raids will be linear, players won’t have to complete them in order if they don’t want to.
Other answers from the interview include confirmation that Burning Crusade versions of Eversong Woods and the Ghostlands will be accessible, a “TBD” answer on whether Heroic Week will return, and the promise of “more lore appropriate opportunities” for additional race/class combinations as the Worldsoul Saga moves forward.
