So who wants to climb a tower by playing musical chairs? That’s not the explicit inspiration behind the Arkheron, a multiplayer PvP tower climber from Bonfire Studios, but it is a core part of the game’s mechanics. Readers will remember this is Rob Pardo’s upcoming game, and it was announced back in January as a game that couldn’t be defined and indeed constituted “something entirely new.”
Here’s what we know so far: Players are divided into 15 teams of three, and after assembling an arsenal of weaponry and abilities looted from treasure chests, enemies, and other players, all of the teams are tasked with finding a beacon to ascend to the next floor. The bad news is that there aren’t enough beacons for every team, so teams will have to fight in isometric melee combat to determine who will get to climb up and who will be dead.
Bonfire is holding some new beta test events for multiple regions starting on September 19th and running through September 21st; you can tap the “request access” button on Steam to get in. We’ve got the two new trailers detailing the game’s lore and gameplay just below.
