Last month we reported on efforts by the Chinese version of World of Warcraft to combat account boosting for real money, particularly as the activity was poisoning the unlocked achievements and world firsts at endgame. Efforts by NetEase saw over 27,000 accounts hit with disciplinary action since the MMORPG’s return to the country last year.
It looks as if the fight continues on, as a new post about the matter sees the devs of the game continue to swing the ban hammer like Sauron at the Siege of Barad-dûr, wiping out over 30,000 more characters between September 11th and the 18th alone for similar violations, over 9,000 of which were found to be engaging in multiple bad practices, according to translation from Wowhead. On top of the annihilation of bad actors, multiple pieces of gear earned through RMT boosting will be reclaimed or removed, while repeated violations face sterner penalties and bans.
Lastly, the upcoming Season 3 Turbo Boost event for the MMORPG’s War Within will require players to defeat the Mythic difficulty Manaforge: Omega boss themselves in order to unlock and purchase their corresponding mythic equipment. If players are found to have gotten the kill through illegitimate means, earned gear will be removed and account bans could occur. Clearly, WoW CN means business.
