It’s been a good long while since we talked about Heroes & Generals here at Massively OP, mostly because the 2016 World War II MMO shut down back in 2023 owing to “outdated” technology on the game’s backend. However, there may be a flicker of hope for a revival, as a young entrepreneur named Zackery Oleson has announced that he has purchased the trademark to the game with the intention of reviving it.
“Earlier this year I officially acquired the U.S. trademark for Heroes & Generals,” Oleson told us. “With the original WWII MMO shut down but its community still active, I’m developing long term plans to revive and expand the IP through licensing and strategic collaboration.”
Oleson went on to hint at some bold moves to come: “I can’t reveal everything yet, but this trademark acquisition marks a rare, game changing moment: a beloved MMO brand entering new hands with a plan to bring it back. I thought your readers, who have followed the ups and downs of this game, would be excited to know the brand is officially secured and poised for a return.”
Of course, it remains to be seen whether Oleson can pull it off; after all, the games industry is in a bit of a struggle right now, especially when it comes to funding. Stay tuned.
