If you’re among those players of Elite: Dangerous who are excited to pick up the Type-11 Prospector mining ship when it hits paid-for early release next week, heads up: It seems as if Frontier Developments is testing the waters on just how eager its fans are, as the new ship will come in a third “galactic edition” buyable option.
This new purchase choice will not only grant early access to the ship and all of the cosmetics of the stellar edition but also bundle in a unique cosmetic ship kit and the game’s first-ever holographic hull visual effect, just in case you wanted to paint a big glowing target on yourself in open PvP mode. The galactic edition of the Tpe-11 will set players back 60,000 Arx, or the $60 bundle of the currency that grants 100K Arx; the next lowest currency pile priced at $38 conveniently offers just 54,000 Arx.
Player reaction to this bundle is pretty discontented, unsurprisingly. While some players are trying to argue in favor of the cost, many more have also come to the conclusion that FDev is testing player patience and spiraling into full-on greed, pointing out other and better ways to extract money from fans and calling the holographic effects straight-up hideous. “Do the arrows guide the hatch-breaker limpets in?” remarked one fan. “When financial reports show that a thing you’ve started charging for is making you more money, don’t assume that charging even more will make even more,” points out another.
