Guild Wars 2 has ensured its last two expansions had something mount-related, specifically a revamp of an older mount that makes it accessible in new ways and much better than the OG. Well, we can now make that last three expansions because Visions of Eternity will do the same thing with skimmer mounts from Path of Fire, and as of last night, we’ve finally got a look at how exactly ArenaNet will revamp them later this fall.

Current skimmers allow players to effectively fly over water, as well as unsurvivable terrain; a quest added later allowed players to dive them underwater too. But according to the new blog, the updated skimmers – wavehawks – will pick up a treasure detection perk (similar to the one from warclaws), speed and hover boosts, and a sweet water jet attack. All skimmers will also be dismountable in midair and mountable in combat.

Players who never went through Path of Fire will be able to acquire and train their skimmer with just Visions of Eternity – again, par for the course with these expansions so that nobody is left behind. But if you already have the skimmer unlocked the long way, you’re getting some extra perks too, including speed and stealth bonuses for diving, even more verticality boosts, barrel roll enhancements, and leyline and updraft riding while mounted up.
